How to Get Your Blood Test Reports

Follow these simple steps to download your blood test results and start tracking your health

Pathology Results (MyHealth Record)

  • Log in to MyHealth Record at myhealthrecord.gov.au
  • Navigate to 'Documents' section
  • Find your pathology results
  • Click 'Download' to save as PDF
  • Email the PDF to mail@smarterblood.org or upload directly

  • Visit your Sonic Healthcare provider's patient portal
  • Log in with your patient credentials
  • Navigate to 'Results' or 'Reports'
  • Download your blood test results as PDF
  • Forward to mail@smarterblood.org

  • Visit clinicallabs.com.au and log in to patient portal
  • Select 'My Results' from the menu
  • Choose the blood test you want to download
  • Click 'Download PDF'

Free Blood Tests Under Medicare
When ordered by a GP, most pathology tests in Australia are bulk-billed (free) through Medicare. Here are common tests you can request from your doctor.

Routine Health Checks

Standard tests typically included in annual health checks

Full Blood Count (FBC)

MBS 65070

Measures red cells, white cells, platelets, and hemoglobin. Screens for anemia, infections, and blood disorders.

Frequency: As clinically required

Liver Function Tests (LFTs)

MBS 66512

Checks liver enzymes (ALT, AST, GGT, ALP) and bilirubin. Monitors liver health.

Kidney Function (U&E, Creatinine, eGFR)

Measures electrolytes, urea, creatinine, and estimated glomerular filtration rate. Monitors kidney health.

Lipid Panel (Cholesterol)

HbA1c (Glycated Hemoglobin)

Frequency: Every 3-6 months for diabetics

Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT)

Measures glucose before and after drinking glucose solution. Diagnoses diabetes and gestational diabetes.

Covered when:
Clinical indication required

TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone)

Initial screening test for thyroid function. Elevated in hypothyroidism, low in hyperthyroidism.

Frequency: As clinically indicated

Free T4 and Free T3

Measures active thyroid hormones. Usually ordered after abnormal TSH.

Iron Studies

Vitamin B12

Folate

C-Reactive Protein (CRP)

Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR)

Non-specific inflammation marker. Used with CRP for diagnosis.

Frequency: As clinically indicated

Cardiac Enzymes (Troponin)

Detects heart muscle damage. Used in suspected heart attacks.

Covered when:
Emergency/hospital setting
Chest pain investigation

BNP/NT-proBNP

Measures heart failure markers. Helps diagnose and monitor heart failure.

INR (Prothrombin Time)

Measures blood clotting time. Essential for warfarin monitoring.

APTT

Gestational Diabetes Screen
